Firefighters Extinguish Structural Fire on Synagogue Hill, St. Thomas

Firefighters on St. Thomas responded to a structural fire on Synagogue Hill, an area just west of Back Street, at about noon today. 

At 12:01 p.m., 911 emergency operators began receiving calls from citizens that a two-story home was on fire at Synagogue Hill and that two individuals could be trapped inside.

All fire stations – Hotel, Lima and Tango companies – responded and arrived on scene within minutes. The fire was under control within an hour and completely extinguished by 2 p.m. St. Thomas Search and Rescue and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded and remained on standby as firefighters worked to control the blaze. 

According to the Fire Service Assistant Director Darryl George, no one was trapped in the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Arson and Prevention Unit.

Other responding agencies included the VI Police Department and the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA).
