The Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center has activated its Incident Command Post as of noon today.
According to Hospital officials 10 individuals reported to the hospital’s Emergency Room with symptoms patients say were caused by the strong gaseous odor that permeated the air over of a large part of St. Croix today.
The 10 individuals seeking treatment met Luis Hospital’s threshold for establishing an Incident Command Post which will allow for better management of cases resulting from today’s incident.
As of 2:30 p.m. 12 individuals reported to the hospital complaining of ailments caused by the strong odor. The hospital’s Incident Command Post will remain activated until further notice.
The Department of Health also has activated its Emergency Operations (EOC) and has staffed it with clinicians and other employees who will address general questions and give information relative to the gaseous odor permeating the air across on St. Croix.
The EOC can be reached at 773-1311, Ext. 3195, and will remain open as long as necessary today.
