VITEMA Urges Motorists to Use Extreme Caution While Heavy Rains Persist

VITEMA is urging motorists on St. Croix to use extreme caution on roadways that may be affected by heavy rains forecasted through most of the night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for St.Croix, which currently remains in effect through 10 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, radar readings indicate very heavy downpours are entering St. Croix from the west with the possibility of one to three inches of rain in an hour. This could cause flooding in streams and guts.

Motorists should not drive their vehicles on roadways covered with water. The water may be deeper than it appears. Turn around and use an alternate route. Just one foot of water can sweep away a vehicle.

VITEMA advises residents to monitor weather reports for advisories, watches and warnings from the National Weather Service.
